Monday & Tuesday, December 8 & 9, 2013

Dear Class:

Mock interviews are on Thursday, December 12 (A day) and Friday, December 13 (B day).

Monday: This is the last day I will be working on the resumes. They must be perfect by the time you leave class today. I will be at my desk accepting the resumes, grading them as handed to me, and then it is done. Tuesday: Next period we will only be working on the interview process itself so I will not be looking at the resumes. NO RESUME...NO INTERVIEW...NO INTERVIEW...YOU DON'T PASS THIS CLASS AND YOU WILL BE RETAKING THIS CLASS NEXT SEMESTER OR NEXT YEAR. If you need help with your resume during class, you need to get a neighbor to help you finish it correctly. I have edited them, in most cases, 3 times already. You have 36 minutes to complete this task'

You will be asking a partner 8 of the questions from the Interview Questions. I want you to start a new document and paste in the interview questions the other student did and how he/she did on each of them and save the document as "Interview Questions (name of interviewee)". You will start this exercise by shaking their hand, smiling, look him/her in the eyes and introducing yourself (hand your resume when the time comes). Gesture him/her to take a seat. You each need to be interviewed and be an interviewer.

Dear Class:

First, while I take roll, please open a new document and title it: "Graduation Requirement". Read this Article: Oregon high school students rip schools as too easy, too prone to keep bad teachers Do you agree with this article in general? Do you think David Douglas High School is easier or harder than other high schools in Oregon? Are you, as a student, willing to take AP, Advanced, or other difficult classes if they were offered at David Douglas? What do you think is the solution to any problems you perceive?

Dear Class:

First, while I take roll, please open a new document and title it: "Graduation Requirement". Read this Article: Oregon school district wants to require college or trade school admission for grads. We have PACE A and PACE B at David Douglas High School. How are those two classes aligned with this requirement? Do you think this requirement is a good one to require in order to graduate? Are you planning on doing this (filling out a college or trade school application?). One last question: What, in the article, is "dissenting" argument or argument against requiring this? Do you agree or disagree?

We continue with our video wrap-up. These vidoes provide informative scenarios and examples to help you understand yourself as a job seeker, job/career planner, and future employee/worker. Finish your analysis of your personal inventory assessments- Interest Profiler, Work Importance Locator, Skills Assessment, by completing handouts, Personal Inventory Analysis and Reflection, pages 1-4; My Career and Occupations Exploration, pages 5-6, CIS Skills Summary, Google and/or Word document and Freewrite. Learning Target:

Go into your "Holland" Codes, paste in your interest locator, and do the below:

Example 1 - In the Skills Assessment task I stated that I can successfully create/draw a portrait worthy of an "A", art recognition award, etc. I matched this accomplishment to the "Perceptual" skills 21, and 23-26. The results of the assessment showed that I was very artistic at a score of 63 for the Holland Pers. Types and a 40 in the Arts and Engineering, Occupational Clusters. This was more evident, when I looked at my Work Importance Locator results. It showed that ...

Do one of the other Assessment Links: It is under CIS, "Exploration", "Assessment Link", and pick two of the list and do them. Print screen the results and paste into a document entitled "Assessment Link your name"

Now open the pdf link, select all (control A), copy (control C), then paste the copied text into your document (control V). GROWING UP ONLINE

1) Continuing Learning Targets:

Students know appropriate reading skills. Finish the Reading Test during the first 15 minutes You will go to CIS and log in. Go to "My Career Planning Portfolio". Go to the bottom of the left hand column and click on "My Learning Express". "Continue". On the left hand column, go to "High School". AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE, ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, IT SHOULD SAY YOUR NAME. IF IT JUST SAYS "Login", THEN YOU NEED TO GO TO THE BROWSER BACK ARROW AND THEN GO FORWARD ARROW UNTIL IT STILL SAYS YOUR NAME. YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS A BUNCH OF TIMES...IT WILL EVENTUALLY WORK! DO NOT USE THIS AS AN EXCUSE TO NOT DO THE READING DIAGNOSTIC TEST! Go to "Reading Comprehension Skills Improvement". Go to "Reading Comprehension Diagnostic Tests" and do the "Reading Skills Diagnostic 1: Informational Text" on your own. You will work quietly and independently on this assignment. You are to do your own work. At the end, please do a print screen (F14) and paste into a document your score using control + V. This test says for an hour so you can finish it next class if you are not done. It counts for a grade!!!

Copyright and Netiquette: We will go over the Copyright and Netiquette PowerPoint and answer the questions at the bottom of specific slides. Please create a document entitled "Copyright Answers" and put your questions and answers there. We will finish with an Introduction to the 7 Habits book. Sincerely,

Mr. Green-Hite
