We will watch the Randy Pausch video and I will provide a handout.  Please have the monitors shut off and fill in the handout during the video.  All work up to this point is due!!!!!

Video: 60 Minutes: 3 Million Open Jobs Video: ~14 min.

     Respond to these questions.  
Justify your answers with 1-3 specific references from the speakers in the video. Ex: Mr. X says that the employers are looking for …… which indicates that ….   should train employees.
   *Copy these statements onto a piece of paper and take notes during the video.
  1. Based on the speakers in the video, who are the parties responsible for training/educating people for employment and why?
  2. What is your opinion about this matter? Do you agree with them or not? Explain.
  3. Do you think many of your peers are ready for entering the working environment? Why?
  4.  What would you suggest your peers do, to better prepare themselves for work?

ACTIVITIES:
  1. Begin work on the handout: Discovering Me MyRoad~ORA Personality Profile a.k.a. MOPPA . 
Follow the instructions in the MyRoad Slide Tutoriallocated in the sidebar— see slides 8-15 if you have taken the profiler. If not then start at the beginning.
     
  2. Students who worked in groups last week to complete a 3-Way Interview activity—If you have time, you can finish your reflection, which is in a separate folder in their class basket. Turn it in at the end of the class period.

WEDNESDAY  & THURSDAY

Warm-Up:  NO FREEWRITE TODAY

ACTIVITIES:

  1. Watch the first half of the video: Interview of Randy Pausch by Diane Sawyer
    1. You do not need computers for this, so your monitors are off.
    2. Complete the handout as you watch the video.  Please cite specific examples from the video.
       
  2. Continuation of the Discovering Me ~ MOPPA/ORA Personality Profile Analysis handout.
    Students you will want to follow the MyRoad slide tutorial.
    *These are due at the end of the period Thursday and Friday.

     
  3. If you and your 3-Way Interview group members finish the MOPPA, then finish your Reflection handout.
     
  4. Start your QuickStart Careers analysis. Take the test if you have not done so yet. Go to the MyRoad tutorial slides for Careers to learn how to complete the handout.

 A great week for discovery of 
who you are to be had by all. You will learn more about yourself as you take several interest and personality surveys. 

8-| BTW: Last day to turn in syllabus signed by parents/guardian is Thursday, Feb. 12.
8-) No school on Friday, Feb. 13

Go to FW 1A and complete it. We will do Freewrite 1B based on your " You the Person..." handout next week. Note: it is okay if the FW #'s are slightly out of order. Please label and date them. Also, use numbering to separate one response from the other. This really helps me when grading your work.

2)   ACCOUNT SET-UP- MyRoad
a) Read through slides 2-9 and follow the instructions.  About 10-15 min.
If you finish early and are caught up with your freewrites....

b) Take the ORA Personality Quiz, see slides 10-13 and the quiz instructions in on slide 29.  125 questions takes about 15-20  minutes.  When you finish... copy and paste all 4 sections of information/data results into a Google document labeled: ORAprofile.
 

3)   VIDEO: Learn 360- What Employers Want; Workplace Basics Essentials
As you watch the video take notes and the self quiz at the end of each section. About 15 min.

  • know how to access your Google student account, set up folders and documents related to PACE and share these with the teacher (required) and your personal professional gmail account- name@gmail.com
  • create an account in MyRoads to complete class activities
ACTIVITIES
  1. Pre-test on resumes.
  2.  Know The Machine (found in ACCOUNT SETUP) : familiarize yourself with how to turn on/off the classroom computer, be able to troubleshoot operating issues when they arise.
  3.  Warm-up: PACE Quiz
    You will need to login to your student Gmail account:   STUDENT GMAIL LOGIN/DDHS Website
    Login: student ID #      password: 8 digit birth monthdayyear (Ex: 02161998)
    Once you login in, click the link INTRO TO PACE AND ACCOUNT SETUP to find  slides 1-7. 
    Instructions: 1st partner reads - you will open the slide tutorial;  2nd  partner writes/types - you will write in the online quiz. Both partners, read through the slides 1-7. Together, you will answer the questions in the online document and be ready to share with the class. QUIZ LINK

  1. Go to Student Vue and verify your new student Gmail address. 
  2. Share the syllabus with your parents/guardian complete the back side with signatures and return it to your teacher in the next 2 weeks or extra credit.
