Dear Class:

First, while I take roll, please open a new document and title it: "Graduation Requirement". Read this Article: Oregon high school students rip schools as too easy, too prone to keep bad teachers Do you agree with this article in general? Do you think David Douglas High School is easier or harder than other high schools in Oregon? Are you, as a student, willing to take AP, Advanced, or other difficult classes if they were offered at David Douglas? What do you think is the solution to any problems you perceive?

We continue with our video wrap-up. These videos provide informative scenarios and examples to help you understand yourself as a job seeker, job/career planner, and future employee/worker. Some of these videos are great segues into your next career exploration- writing a resume. You will look at your personal experiences and translate them into business language.

Learning Target: You will 1) add to your knowledge of personality types as related to you and others; 2) build on your understanding of your abilities and how you acquire them, 3) expand your knowledge of work place preferences.

Activities: Complete video assignment sheets as you watch the following videos. A class discussion will follow each video in which you will share your comments about the video.

Test for aptitude; Interview for attitude Three Million Open Jobs - As millions of Americans remain unemployed, U.S. manufacturers are having trouble filling jobs requiring the skills to operate their high-tech machinery. We will watch it together. 12 minute video Response Questions: According to the video, who are the parties responsible for training/ educating people for employment and why? Do you think many of your peers are ready for entering the working environment? Why? What would you suggest they do to better prepare themselves for work? Video 1

Create a new Document and title it "Succeeding in the workplace" Answer the following questions: What does the video say you need to succeed in the workplace specifically? Rate yourself for each one and tell me what you would do in order to improve each of these. Would these improvements help your parents? (Mon. & Tues., Oct. 14 & 15)

Finally, Occupations "Reality Check". Go to CIS, Occupations tab, Which Occupations match my preferences, and then "Reality Check". Plug in the appropriate parts and money and run it. See which job you would need to support that type of lifestyle. Sincerely,
