     Part 1:  Take the online Mindset Quiz
     Copy your score on the back side of your handout.
   
     Part 2: TEDTalk: The Power of Belief
  • Read:  "The way we understand our intelligence and abilities deeply impacts our success. Based on social science research and real life examples, Eduardo Briceño articulates how mindset, or the understanding of intelligence and abilities, is key. When students or adults see their abilities as fixed, whether they think they're naturals or just not built for a certain domain, they avoid challenge and lose interest when things get hard."   From intro to video.

       Read article: Which Type of Resume is Right for You?
        Respond to these statements in complete sentences:

  • List and explain the pros and cons of each type of resume.
  • In the section about “Essential Parts of Any Resume”, the writer states 3 of the five key elements we learned about last class. Which two were not mentioned in this section? 
  • What other (three)  things does the article state should be in your  resume? 
  • Which of these statements best describes office work as an accomplishment rather than a daily task?
    a) Filed paperwork in alphabetical order
    b) Organized and prioritized documents to facilitate access and storage.
    c) Established a filing system that prioritized documents and facilitated record keeping. 

         Activities:

Students, you will work on the following today:

  1. Continue with the Skills Worksheet to step 4. Follow the tutorial, CIS Skills Activity Instructions found here or down below in Resources.
  2. Complete step 5 and create a document called: PDx_FullName_CISSkillsSummary.
    Follow the instructions in the tutorial to find the skills professionals in your chosen occupation say are necessary as well as finding your skills.  You will be making a Venn diagram or table showing your skills, the skills for the job and identify the subset of skills you have for the occupation/job you have chosen. This set will be the basis for your "Skills" section of the resume.

    Your document will have 3 things – a screen shot of your skills, a copy/paste of the skills for the job and your diagram or table. 
  3. UP NEXT....  Writing in business language for the resume.
