IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

Mock Interviews will occur on the following dates:
Semester 2 —Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6
You must attend one of the sessions to receive full credit for the interview.


Learning Targets:
Students will --

  1. Identify work and education experience that is related to work world.
  2. ​Identify one strong career potential as your resume objective based upon your research.
  3. Know the five parts to a resume- personal information, job objective, education, work history and skills. 
  
 Period 7....
    ActivitiesStudents, you will work on the following today:
​​Create a document entitled "Name_Resume Writing for Teens"
  1.) Watch the video: Resume Writing For Teens    10 minutes 

  • Responses: 
    • Why is a resume important? (Hint:  2 basic points)
    • What is the purpose of a resume?
    • What should a resume include to explain who you are?
    • Why is it important to structure a resume?  How should one look?
    • What are some key elements to a resume? a)  b)  c)  d)  e) (they mention this one in the beginning and is related to your experience)
    • What are three things a resume should have/show? a) b) c)
    
  2.) Intro to  Resume--What Do I Need To Know About Resumes?
  • Read slides 1-14 of the  How To Write A Resume  tutorial.
  • Work with your partner as a team to respond to these statements on paper. You will turn in one paper with both of your names on it. 
  1. What skills will you be building in this resume lesson?
  2. What is your responsibility in regards to completing a resume, and how are you graded?
  3. List the 5 key parts to the resume that we will follow and write a short description in your own words about each part.
  4. Explain the visual look of a resume: How it is structured and why?  What fonts are more appropriate and why? Look at the fonts available to you in PowerPoint and give a few examples of appropriate fonts and non-appropriate fonts.

  3.)  Is Your Career and Occupation Choice A Good Fit? 
       Answer the following in a Google doc with file name: FullName_CareerOccupation

    Note: You will also record this information later on the Job Objective handout.)
  4. Why do you think this is a realistic occupation and career choice for you?
  5. How have you prepared for this occupation? e.g. classes have you taken, grades you have earned, activities, etc.
  6. Do you have the required personality type and job skills? 
    Give specific reasons or examples to justify your response. e.g.  your personality categories and letters, personal experiences, etc. These are from your handouts. 
          This information will be included in your final project in the Career section. 15 minutes

        4.) Complete the double-sided handout titled: "My Education" & "My Work History". 

  • Read instructions on handout first and then go to the the tutorial--How to Write a Resume Tutorial/Instructions and slide 20 Read through to slide 23. 
  • Follow the examples on the handout and in the tutorial.  
  • Relates to Learning Target:  1. Identify work and education experience that is related to work world.

     Finish What Careers Suit Me if this is not completed.
   
DO THIS WHEN YOU FINISH EARLY:  work on any incomplete work first, then your
           final project. When working on the final project, refer to the slide tutorial we
