Mock Interviews will occur on the following dates:
Semester 2 —Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6
You must attend one of the sessions to receive full credit for the interview.

Reminder >>>>>>  

If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to go to the class website, read through the weekly agenda, find the work you missed, and complete it.
If you are wishful to get Mt Hood Community College credit, then you need to get admitted to Mt. Hood.  There is a sheet available for this.  Use an email other than your school email!   If you are already admitted to Mt. Hood, then the class is "HD110" section "80".  My name will appear as one of the classes.  Select it and then add.
Next week I will remind you again for those that would be then admitted and have you register at that time.

 Warmup:

  • A Day: Write thoughtful responses to questions 8-15 from the Mock Interview Questions handout. 10-15 min.  Interview Questions.

      ActivitiesStudents, you will work on the following today:
  1. Begin handwriting a draft of your resume.
    Follow slides 29-30 of  the How to Write a Resume Tutorial Instructions.

    Note: If you did not finish the individual assignments you can still do the draft but will need to follow the slide instructions for those resume sections.
  • Job Objective — Slides 18-19
  • Education —Slides 20-21
  • Work History — Slides 22-23
  • Skills and One-Liners— Slides 24-28

      2.   When you finish writing the draft, download the resume template and type in   
            your information for the information on the template.
            Delete any extra wording that is not part of your resume information.
            Follow slides 12, 13 & 14.

      3.   Proof your work by comparing your typed draft to the example on slide 31.

      4.  Use slide 32 to assist you in scoring your work.

​Business Language — formal writing that objective, succinct and specific
Business Language resume writing — describes abilities and accomplishments as specific, measurable and concrete experiences, starts with an action verb, avoids slang and personal wording ( No "I" statements.)

           FreeWrites/Warm-Up--Interview Questions.  Create a Google Doc titled "Interview_Questions" and answer the first 7 questions of the second sheet of Interview Questions.

How to Dress for Success presentation by the College and Career staff 

  • Monday, April 11th— Period 7, Period 8
  • Tuesday, April 12th— Period 1, Period 2, Period 4

  1. Continue with the Skills Worksheet to step 4. Follow the tutorial, CIS Skills Activity Instructions found here or down below in Resources.  CIS Login Link
  2. Complete step 5 and create a document called: PDx_FullName_CISSkillsSummary.
    Follow the instructions in the tutorial to find the skills professionals in your chosen occupation say are necessary as well as finding your skills.  You will be making a Venn diagram or table showing your skills, the skills for the job and identify the subset of skills you have for the occupation/job you have chosen. This set will be the basis for your "Skills" section of the resume.

    Your document will have 6 things – a screen shot of your skills, a copy/paste of the skills for the job, Clusters, Holland Personality Types, Top 30 Occupations and your diagram or table. 
  3. Save both your "Skills" and then "Save as new" for the "Skills" of the occupation that you chose.
  4. UP NEXT....  Writing in business language for the resume.

4.  What are the skills you identified that you had from the video:  What Employers Want?







      What transferable skills do these young men possess to be able to accomplish their goals? Justify your choices.

        Work with your partner; one paper per pairing. Split the duties— one reader, one writer.
        Respond to these statements in complete sentences:
  • List and explain the pros and cons of each type of resume.
  • In the section about “Essential Parts of Any Resume”, the writer states 3 of the five key elements we learned about last class. Which two were not mentioned in this section?
