SOPHOMORE READING ASSESSMENT--OAKS
Hopefully, you have had a good night's sleep; eaten a hearty, protein packed meal; and have exercised your brain so you can do your best. Your goal is to pass this test. 236 is passing, 248+ is exceeding.
PLEASE, DO NOT GO ON TO THE INTERNET.
SIT QUIETLY AND WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS. WE WILL BEGIN SHORTLY AFTER THE BELL RINGS. THANKS.
This week, we will not be able to use our computers to do any work. This will be the case as long as students are testing in room 219. Please be respectful of others.
You must stay in your seat during the class period. Do not get up. Raise your hand and wait silently till the teacher comes to you if you need something.
No restroom breaks or leaving the classroom until the end of the period.
For those of you who are not testing or if you finish- Work on incomplete or missing work for PACE A. You will do this silently using pen/pencil and paper. Wait silently for specifics from teacher.
While waiting or if you are all caught up with PACE A classwork, you may read silently, or work on other class assignments silently. DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER!!!!
RESUME WORKBOOK INSTRUCTIONS-
Read through each section of the Resume Workbook Abridged handout.
Complete as directed - STEP 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7.
Write in complete sentences and
Follow the examples provided in the handout.
Since we are further ahead than before, please take the information that you put in from steps 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 and fill out pages 21 and 22 in the resume workbook. This information will be transferred to a "working" resume.
We will be using the Resume Template to do our resume. New resume template. I will also show you a resume builder on CIS that you can use to help you, but I do not want it as a final authority!

Part C- COMPARE: Top Skills found in My Preferred Job/Occupation (from OCC in CIS) Go to section Skills Assessment site 1) Find 3-5 jobs of interest from Part A. Look for jobs/occupations that can be found in your combined report, your Holland Code>Occupational Clusters, also check out jobs from the Work Locator. 2) Find the skills set needed for 2 of these jobs by selecting from OCC in CIS. You will find the OCC in the bottom left corner of the Skills Summary page. Select your occupation and the skills will appear.Take a screen shot of the skills set (It has a blue background.) table format. Make sure to label each skill set for the job selected.
Part D- Write a summary statement about the skills you currently possess and those you need to acquire for your preferred job/occupation.

First, do an "Article Review" based on this article. I want you to reflect on what you will do...go to college, go directly in the workforce. Does this article change your decision? Does the article make you think twice about your career? Could you see yourself at the community college level?
We will be doing a "Cluster Exploration" using this document, downloading it, filling it in using Adobe Acrobat Professional, and then uploading it with the title "Last Name_ClusterExploration". This will lead us to the resume workbook on page 7 "Choose a job objective". On CIS, we do have to look at the left column regarding the state CLEs for addition to the job objective!!!

Starting the class with a warmup. Please read the following article on "10 skills" and tell me what those 10 skills are and which ones reflect your skills. Use full sentences!
This week we will focus on:
1)defining desired work skills as they are identified through our experiences (Thinking About Me, Skills Assessment, & Resume Workbook, Step 1), interests assessments (Interest Profiler, Holland Code & Meyer's Briggs Personality Quiz) and preferences (Work Locator);
2) determining and narrowing our job/career choices through our exploration of CIS activities-the Combined Report of the Interest Profiler, Work Locator, Skills Assessment, and new- Career Clusters and Where in the World as well as the Meyer's Briggs Career Compatibility.
3) Identify skills in Step 1 of your Resume Workbook by pairing the Skills Assessment skills (1-72) to those from pages 2-6 of the Resume Workbook.
4) To gather the content of this assignment - Identifying Jobs/Occupations, you will need to 1) generate a Combined Report" found on the CIS site. How to generate a Combined Report- You must complete in CIS the following activities: Interest Profiler, Work Locator, and Skills Assessment. Go to > My Career Planning Portfolio> My Assessments and Sorts> Combined Reports Download your report or create a screen shot. Paste the table into your Word document.
